In 2003, he received his Ph.D. from the Department of geology of Northwest University. From 2009 to 2010, he worked as a visiting scholar at the University of Gottingen, Germany, and as a researcher in the Department of geology of Northwest University in 2015. In 2018, he became Secretary General of Shaanxi paleontology society.

Since 1996, we mainly studied the helminths and metazoans in the Cambrian Chengjiang Fauna of Yunnan Province. In the last six years, we have focused on the study of the embryo fossils of spinifers from the kuanchuanpu formation of Cambrian in southern Shaanxi. In recent years, through cooperation with biologists and paleontologists at home and abroad, we have found the oldest known microstomata, the oldest known anemone fossils with soft body structure and jellyfish fossils with four or five radiative symmetrical structures. The research results won the first prize of the Ministry of Education Natural Science Award (2009, the third adult). The discovery of Cambrian cubic jellyfish was selected as one of the "top ten scientific and technological achievements of China's oceans and lakes in 2013". In 2014, he won the 10th Shaanxi Youth Science and Technology Award and Shaanxi Youth Science and technology pacesetter. In 2016, he won the second prize of the National Natural Science Award (the fifth adult, project name: earth animal tree forming). It was found that the oldest microstomata was selected as one of the "100 papers most concerned by the global media in 2017" and "top ten advances in Chinese paleontology in 2017". At present, more than 150 papers have been jointly published, including 26 papers of the first author (including corresponding authors), of which one is published in nature in the form of cover and highlight papers, 86 articles are included in SCI, and more than 3850 papers have been cited (Google scholars h index 34, research gate impact index 40.18).

Presided over four NSFC projects, one international cooperation project, participated in national key basic research and development plan (973 Plan), key NSFC projects, innovation groups of NSFC and scientific and technological innovation teams in key fields of Shaanxi Province.
