This event covers three grassroots schools in Jinxixia Town, Shangnan County, including primary school, nine-year school in Guofenglou Town, and Zhaochuan Hope Primary School, serving more than 1500 teachers and students. The activity focuses on popularizing basic geological knowledge, tailored to the cognitive characteristics of young people, with rock science as the core, to create a popular and interesting science popularization classroom, effectively filling the gap in geological science popularization resources in rural campuses. In the lecture, our science popularization lecturer relied on a solid foundation in geology and combined it with the cognitive laws of young people to explain in a simple and understandable way the formation principles and core characteristics of the three major rock types: magmatic rocks, sedimentary rocks, and metamorphic rocks. He clearly explained the geological cycle process of the transformation of the three major rock types under the action of temperature, pressure, and external forces. By making abstract earth science theories interesting and practical, students' enthusiasm for exploration has been effectively mobilized, allowing rural students to immerse themselves in the unique charm of geological science up close.
For a long time, our department has relied on its disciplinary and talent advantages, actively linked with official platforms, and regularly carried out geological science popularization activities. We also encourage students to leverage their geological professional advantages to participate in science popularization public welfare undertakings. This participation in the provincial official science popularization activity is a vivid practice of our department's practice of fulfilling the social service function of universities and deepening the effectiveness of practical education. The grassroots science popularization lecture in Shangnan was specifically completed by our master's student Yang Yunpeng.
