On May 23rd, the award ceremony for the 2025 "Proxima Centauri Cup" Earth Science Popularization Creation Competition for Primary and Secondary Schools and the launch ceremony for the 2026 competition were successfully held in the lecture hall of the Northwest University Museum. Award winning teachers, students, organizers, and science popularization experts and scholars from all over the province gathered at the scene to commend outstanding award-winning works of the competition and start a new round of competition activities.

At the beginning of the activity, Shu Degan, an academician of the CAS Member and professor of the Department of Geology of Northwest University, made an opening speech. Taking the scientific exploration process of Humboldt and Darwin as an example, Shu Yuan encouraged young people to maintain scientific curiosity, dare to question, and be diligent in exploration. They should use a scientific perspective to understand the mountains, rivers, and earth, and appreciate the mysteries of nature. Through continuous exploration, they should accumulate knowledge, hone their literacy, and pursue scientific ideals.

He comprehensively summarized the development process of the "Proxima Centauri Cup" competition and stated that the Department of Geology has long relied on its disciplinary advantages and popular science platforms to deeply cultivate youth science popularization work. In the future, it will continue to help improve the scientific literacy of young people and reserve talent for earth science.

At the end of the event, the 2026 "Proxima Centauri Cup" Earth Science Popularization Creation Competition for Primary and Secondary Schools was officially launched, marking the full start of a new round of science popularization creation competitions. After the ceremony, all attendees took a group photo and visited the Northwest University Museum to learn about geology and paleontology up close, immersing themselves in the charm of earth science.

The establishment of the Bilibili Star Cup Earth Science Popularization Creation Competition for Primary and Secondary Schools aims to deeply implement the action of improving the scientific literacy of the whole nation, fully leverage the disciplinary advantages of universities, serve the development of basic education science popularization, and ignite the enthusiasm of primary and secondary school students to explore nature and geological science. Since its launch, the competition has encouraged young people to focus on earth science related fields such as paleontological evolution, rock minerals, resource minerals, and ecological environment. They will use pen and ink to depict mountains and rivers, and use creativity to explain science, to comprehensively build a platform for innovative creation and display of earth science for young people, and to help promote the deep integration of science education in primary and secondary schools with geological science popularization resources in universities, and to enhance the scientific literacy of young people in the province. The competition has been successfully held for three sessions and gradually developed into a youth earth science popularization event with certain influence.
