On May 22-23, the 6th National Symposium on the Development and Utilization of Geothermal Resources in Oilfield Areas and the Technical Exchange Conference on Comprehensive Utilization of Waste Heat in Oilfield and Refining Enterprises were held in Xi'an. This conference is jointly hosted by the China Petroleum and Petrochemical Engineering Research Association, the Standardization Technical Committee of Geothermal Energy in the Energy Industry, and the Geothermal Professional Committee of the China Energy Research Association, the Shaanxi Geothermal Association, Northwest University, and Sinopec Green Source Geothermal Energy (Shaanxi) Development Co., Ltd. The conference, with the theme of "vigorously promoting the comprehensive coordinated and integrated development of oil, gas, geothermal and new energy", adopted methods such as conference reports and on-site inspections and exchanges of geothermal development and utilization projects to explore and exchange the progress achievements of oilfield geothermal in resource evaluation, development and utilization, innovative technology practice, and technical equipment application effects. The conference also organized representatives to visit the Yingbin Road Geothermal Energy Station of Sinopec Green Source Company on site. More than 100 well-known experts, scholars, R&D personnel, and representatives of entrepreneurs in the geothermal industry from across the country attended the meeting to exchange and discuss the latest research achievements, cutting-edge technologies, and comprehensive development and utilization practices in the field of oilfield geothermal development and utilization. Multiple media outlets have promoted and reported on the conference. Researcher Ren Zhanli from our department was invited to give an academic report titled "Characteristics and Resource Evaluation and Development Utilization of Geothermal Fields in the Ordos Basin" at the conference. The report provided a detailed introduction to the current distribution characteristics of geothermal fields, deep thermal structure, geothermal resources, evaluation of favorable development areas, development and utilization practices, and the latest research progress on the role of the Ordos Basin in carbon dioxide reduction. The geothermal team led by Researcher Ren Zhanli has been continuously researching geothermal fields, resources, basin geothermal evolution history, and oil and gas evaluation in more than ten sedimentary basins in China, including the Ordos and Weihe Basin, for over 30 years, and has achieved a series of innovative results. As a geothermal expert, actively participating in the initiation, evaluation, consultation, development, and promotion of new technologies in geothermal exploration and development projects, actively providing suggestions and suggestions to the government has been valued and adopted, and has contributed to the exploration and development of geothermal resources by the Western University. The exploration and development of geothermal clean energy is a direction strongly supported and developed by the country, and geothermal clean energy is also one of the main businesses of the petroleum industry. The demand and development potential of the new energy market are great, and the oil and gas industry attaches great importance to it. The successful hosting of this conference will undoubtedly play a positive role in promoting the exploration and development of geothermal resources in China's oil and gas industry, as well as achieving the "dual carbon goals".
