6 On the morning of August 6th, the "Symposium on the 100th Anniversary of Mr. Zhao Zhongyuan's Birth" hosted by the Department of Geology at Northwest University was held in Conference Room 218 of the Department of Geology at Taibai Campus. Representatives of Mr. Zhao Zhongyuan's family, student representatives, as well as over 30 guests from Changqing Oilfield, Yanchang Oilfield, Xi'an University of Petroleum, Chang'an University, Xi'an Shiwen Software Co., Ltd. and other units attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Long Xiaoping, the head of the Department of Geology.

Long Xiaoping, on behalf of the Department of Geology, welcomes and thanks the attendees. He pointed out that Mr. Zhao Zhongyuan has long been rooted in the field of petroleum geology at Northwest University, and is an important founder, pioneer, and leader of the petroleum geology discipline at Northwest University. Mr. devoted his life to the national energy cause, devoted himself to teaching and research, and poured a lot of effort into the construction of the Department of Geology at Northwest University and the development of China's petroleum geology industry. He values knowledge and education, is indifferent to fame and fortune, and deeply cultivates his foundation. His spirit of scholarship and style of education are valuable spiritual assets of the Department of Geology.

During the communication and speech session, representatives of Mr. Zhao Zhongyuan's relatives and students deeply mourned his academic contributions and personal style. Jin Jiuqiang, a representative of the relatives, expressed gratitude to the Department of Geology for organizing this memorial service, and was pleased to see that Mr. Jin's academic spirit and educational tradition continue to be passed down in the field of petroleum geology in China. Zhou Lifa, Ren Zhanli, Zhang Xiaohui, Luo Xiaorong, and others spoke successively, recalling the touching stories of Mr. Zhou's foresight, selfless dedication, tolerance, generosity, and individualized teaching. They stated that Mr. Zhao's academic ideas have profoundly influenced the development of China's petroleum geology discipline, and his educational philosophy has cultivated a large number of petroleum talents, as well as shaped the excellent tradition of Northwest University's petroleum geology discipline. Young teacher representative Zhang Dongdong stated that Mr. Zhao left behind not only academic achievements, but also a rigorous and pragmatic way of thinking and academic spirit for the younger generation. Our new generation should inherit and carry forward the fine traditions of our petroleum predecessors, and make new contributions to the development of the petroleum discipline.

Representatives of teachers outside the school, Song Lijun, as well as representatives of oil fields and research institutions, Cao Jinzhou, Liu Xinshe, and others, made exchange speeches on the combination of subject construction and industry development. They stated that Mr. Zhao Zhongyuan is an important scholar in the field of petroleum geology in China, and his academic achievements, team building, and talent cultivation have had a profound impact on the development of China's petroleum geology discipline and industry. I hope that the Department of Geology at Northwest University can further inherit and promote the knowledge, style, and spiritual character of Mr. Xi, and continuously achieve new results in serving the national energy and resource strategic needs.

In his concluding speech, Chen Feng, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Department of Geology, pointed out that Mr. Zhao Zhongyuan embodies the original aspiration, mission, and spiritual pursuit of the older generation of geologists from Xida, who are rooted in the west and serve the country through geology. All teachers and students in the department should learn from Mr. Xi's approach to learning from national needs and cultivating talents around industry development, further organize his academic ideas, inherit his spirit of educating people, and promote the excellent geological traditions of Xi'an University. The Department of Geology will take this memorial service as an opportunity to transform the commemoration of our predecessors into practical actions to promote discipline construction, talent cultivation, and serve national strategies, and to continue writing a new chapter in the development of the geological cause of Xi'an University in the new era.
