On the afternoon of September 23rd, our department's science popularization vanguard team visited Northwest University Affiliated Primary School in Chang'an District, Xi'an, bringing a rich and vivid geological science popularization feast to all sixth grade students. Yang Jianfeng, principal of Northwest University Affiliated Primary School, and Li Qingyan, deputy director of the Department of Geology (initiator of the Science Popularization Vanguard), personally provided on-site guidance.

This event includes two parts: the "Dr. Earth Square Geological Movement Museum" specimen exhibition and geological science popularization course lectures. In the exhibition area of the mobile museum, the dazzling array of minerals, ores, and rock specimens attracted children to stop and watch. The fossils of ancient organisms and vertebrate specimens also aroused students' strong curiosity about the history of the Earth. The booth is also equipped with a microscope, allowing students to observe the microstructure of rocks under the microscope and experience the mysteries of earth science up close.

After the specimen exhibition, 10 groups of the science popularization vanguard entered 10 classes in sixth grade and conducted fun science popularization courses around different geological themes. The team members used vivid language, visual demonstrations, and interactive Q&A to transform professional geological knowledge into easy to understand and entertaining popular science content. The classroom atmosphere was lively, and students actively participated and asked questions.

The Science Popularization Vanguard Team of the Department of Geology at Northwest University has been conducting science popularization course lectures at the Taibai Campus since 2021. They visit the school every two weeks to teach different themed courses, which has become a landmark event for the two-way integration of science popularization services and student practice in our department. This event is the first science popularization lecture held at Northwest University Affiliated Primary School in Chang'an District after our department relocated to the Chang'an campus, and it is also a continuation of the iconic science popularization campaign on campus.

This activity allows elementary school students to learn about the Earth and geology in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, planting the seeds of scientific exploration. At the same time, it also provides a platform for professional practice and popular science services for students in the department. Next, the Department of Geology will continue its traditional practice of conducting regular science popularization lectures, holding science popularization exhibitions from time to time, continuously promoting the construction of science popularization pioneers, and creating more high-quality science popularization brand activities.
